To share the love of reading... Overview:
Each year, all students at the high school are required to pick one book from the Summer Reading book list to read over the summer. The books are selected by the DAHS Literacy Committee, a group of reading professionals across content areas at the high school.
In September, students meet in discussion groups led by teachers, administrators and school board members to talk about their books and get credit for summer reading. Students who demonstrate they have read their summer reading book are rewarded with a coupon for Extra Credit to be used in any class for the current school year. Return to top of page. Goals:
*To increase enthusiasm for reading for pleasure and reading as a life-long pastime. *To promote a community of readers and build a culture of literacy. *To expose students to quality literature. *To keep students engaged in reading over summer vacation, which will reduce summer learning loss.
