Tasks

This is an overview of what you'll be doing during the unit.  Specific instructions are included on the Process page.

1. Read the article "Are We Lucky for the First Amendment?" and complete the following:

• print a copy
• annotate it
• write a summary

2. Choose and read a book from the list.

3. Hand in packet which includes a working definition of challenged vs. banned; a completed censorship quiz; and a printed "MINI-RESEARCH" project.

4. Participate in one Moodle discussion with the other students who read the same book.  This discussion will include students from other classes who read the same book as you.

5. The culminating project for this unit will be creating a newspaper with your group.  The newspaper will include the following:
• News story
• Two letters to the editor: one where the challenge is made and the other defending YA lit and students' rights to read
• The combined "MINI-RESEARCH" stories
