Vocal Ensembles

 

Treble Choir (women)

Treble Choir at DeForest Area High School is open to all grade 10-12 treble (female) voices with a minimum of one-year high school choral experience and instructor placement.  Students will continue to review and improve in all areas of choral education including music theory, sight reading skills (rhythmic and tonal) and stage presence performance skills through the use of 3-part and 4-part harmony in a wide variety of musical styles and more challenging literature.  In addition to required home performances and WSMA Music Festivals, students have the opportunity to partake in various clinic/festival choral formats with other school choral departments and perform for community functions as available. Cultural performing opportunities may be open to Treble Choir members in scheduled years.

Chorale Choir (women)

Chorale at DeForest Area High School is open to all incoming freshmen as well as all upperclassmen who want to learn about basic choral singing thru performance.  Students sing in unison, 2-part and 3-part harmony with focus on basic vocal techniques including blend, balance, intonation, range, diction, tonal quality and musicality.  A vaariety of musical styles and periods are explored.  Students are introduced to basic music theory, sightreading (rhythmic and tonal) and basic stage-presence performance skills.

Chamber Choir (men)

Chamber choir at DeForest High School is open to all grade 9-12 men who want to lean about basic choral singing thru performance.  Students sing in unison, 2-part and 3-part harmony with focus on basic vocal techniques including blend, balance, intonation, range, diction, tonal quality and musicality.  A variety of musical styles and periods are explored.  Students are introduced to basic music theory, sight reading skills (rhythmic and tonal) and basic stage-presence performance skills.

Show Choir (mixed)

 

All members of vocal extracurriculars must also be members of the DAHS Vocal Department.  (The exception might be instrumental accompanists.)  The Deforest High School Music Department Handbook will apply as policy information.  Vocal extracurricular rehearsals and performances will be scheduled with in the needs of all members.  Generally, rehearsals are held after or before school or within the school day per the director’s schedule.  Additional rehearsals that are needed may be scheduled for evenings or weekends with mutual agreement.  All rehearsals and performances are REQUIRED. No more than three unexcused absences are allowed or dismissal from the group will result.  Participants must re-apply for membership yearly.  The size of the group is at the discretion of the director. Students who participate in any athletic, class or club that is extra curricular MUST sign a DAHS Student Code of Conduct contract and be in good standing in academics and behavior.
