We’re excited to share more information about the interior design of the expanded and renovated DeForest Area High School. The design is inspired by the vibrant colors, natural materials and rich textures of a park. The use of color serves multiple functions within our school. Purple and yellow help reinforce our school spirit and build our District’s brand. But color is also used to help students and guests with way-finding by distinguishing one academic area from another.
A key feature of the new high school design is expanded common space. The commons will be enlarged significantly by combining the existing school cafeteria, north gym and pool into two integrated commons spaces that flow together seamlessly. This new space will not simply be used as a cafeteria. Rather, the students can use the commons to eat, study, and socialize, giving the space a university union “feel”. Small nooks and furniture seating groups placed throughout the space will allow for individual and group work. The commons even includes a small stage that can be used for performances or presentations. A major benefit of the new commons is that it will accommodate many more students than our existing, cramped cafeteria. The new space will be much more comfortable, allowing students the space they need to focus on their work and accommodate our increased enrollment.
The school improvements will also help contribute to the long-term health and wellness of our community. When not being used by our students, the public will have access to the new pool and recreational programs will have access to the gym.
High School Interior Design Inspiration by EUA
As one walks through a park, their eyes pick up on vibrant color. One might see a paved road. Others may see green leaves. One may favor the yellow sunshine, or purple florals. There would be a blue sky with an abundance of light, white clouds. The surrounding air will be fresh. They may lean up against a tree to eat lunch, read a book, or hang out with friends. As the sun rises and sets, vibrant colors intertwine, but all work together in harmony.
Construction began in mid-May, with the addition of the gym and pool. You can follow the progress with Findorff’s Updates every other week.
