The following information is provided by a community group working with the school district to raise funds for the turf project.
Why IS TURF NEEDED? |
- The field at DMB Community Bank Stadium is in need of replacing. It was last done well over 30 years ago. Reconditioning the field could mean the field would not be usable for at least a year.
- With the referendum building project slated to start in Spring 2020, there will be fewer practice fields for a couple years. This would allow high school teams to have a safe practice field. There would be less wear and tear on practice fields that have been also used for practices and less risk of injury on those torn up practice fields.
- Less than 50% of all contests that were scheduled to be played in DMB Stadium have actually been played there over the last two years (Fall 2018 - Fall 2019). Contests have been moved to offsite locations or played on practice fields because the field has been unplayable. This causes more expense for the school district to bus athletes and unsafe playing conditions on worn out practice fields.
- DAHS is very fortunate to have one of the best high school stadiums in the area. The stadium could be used on weekends and/or nights for youth competitions and practices. DASD would also be able to host community events and WIAA postseason events.
- Annual maintenance costs for artificial turf are much less than a natural surface.
|
WHAT IS BEING PROPOSED? |
- Installation of artificial turf in DMB Community Bank stadium WILL Improve the safety of the playing surface. The plan is to install one of the safest artificial turf surfaces available. A consistent surface would reduce the injury rate, especially knee injuries and concussions.
- The stadium would be able to host at least three times the number of events currently held in the stadium.
- Athletic teams, clubs, and marching band would be able to practice and/or hold competitions in the stadium. Spring sports like baseball, softball, and track would also benefit from artificial turf.
- Youth athletic events and community events could be hosted inside the stadium. Youth soccer, youth football, youth lacrosse, and village recreation youth programs would be able to access the field for camps or contests.
- High school and middle school physical education classes and the school's strength and training program would benefit from the artificial surface.
