Collleges' admission criteria vary from school to school. Most four-year colleges and universities require (at the minimum) the following credits for admission purposes:
-
4 credits of English
-
3 credits of math (including algebra I, geometry, and algebra II)
-
3 credits of science
-
3 credits of social studies
Some colleges and universities may require foreign language for admission as well. Within the University of Wisconsin system, currently UW-Madison and UW-Eau Claire require two years (two levels) of the same language to be considered for admission.
Colleges will consider a variety of factors when making admission decisions. Most colleges will consider grades, class rank, ACT or SAT test scores, and most importantly, the rigor of the applicant's high school curriculum. Colleges will also consider outside involvements, including extracurricular involvement, community service, employment, and unique life circumstances.
