The ACT and SAT are two college entrance exams that students may need to take in order to be admitted directly to a four-year college. Colleges in the Midwest prefer that students take the ACT, while East and West Coast colleges generally prefer that students take the SAT. The majority of our students only take the ACT. It is always best to check a college's website to see which test they prefer.
All of our students take the ACT at school in the spring of their junior year. Students are automatically registered for the test and there is no cost to students. Students may use their score from this test administration for college application purposes.
Many students may choose to retake the ACT in order to improve their scores. There is no penalty to retaking the ACT; colleges will always use a student's highest test score when evaluating applicants. The ACT offers national test dates in April and June of junior year and in September and October of senior year. The test is also offered in December and February. When students register for the ACT the can arrange to have their scores directly sent to the schools they are interested in.
There are several classroom ACT test prep sessions offered by the counselors during in early second semester, and the link to the right will give you several other options for ACT and SAT test preparation.
Students can register online for these tests using the following links:
The ACT test contains four curriculum-based, multiple choice tests that measure academic achievement in the areas of English, mathematics, reading, and science, as well as an optional Writing Test, for which students complete an essay.
