Will the internet be filtered when I use my device at home?
Yes, access will be filtered wherever the device is used.
What if I don’t have wireless at home?
We have a few options right now, but we know we'll need more. If students are working on a Google doc, "offline" access can work without the Internet. Additionally, our public library has wireless access.
What about screen time?
Screen time is a concern for the District. Along with privacy, we want students to have “clean” digital footprints. We help students with the nuts and bolts of this during library work, 5-6 Computer Literacy, STEAM classes, and more. We believe the computer is a tool and that doesn’t mean it is always the right tool. Fresh air, discussions, face-to-face collaboration, physical activity, and creativity hold high value for students.
Will the Chromebook be regularly updated?
Yes, Chromebooks are set to update automatically when they are in use and connected to the Internet.
We heard that things we search for might be collected. Is that true?
Yes, since the Chromebook belongs to the District, the activity is monitored and logged. We follow guidelines established by COPPA, CIPA, FERPA, and all other Federal and State requirements. In both our Acceptable Use Policies and our Guest Wireless notification, we state that traffic and activity is monitored on our networks and devices.
How would each Chromebook be tracked?
We currently use tools available in Google Workspace for Education, Managed Methods, and Classwize/Linewize to monitor and track all district owned devices. These are generally used to ensure the safety of our staff and students and our network.
